ERASMUS+ Student

Catarina is currently an erasmus intern at Smart Separations. She’s doing her thesis internship to finish her master in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at NOVA University, Portugal. So far she has done two internships, one in EDP - Energias de Portugal, S.A and another one at ITQB Nova in Portugal as well, both for 2 months. She has a big interest in new technologies and innovation with the purpose of improving and making the difference in people's lives. Sustainability is her bigger passion.

Name a favourite scientist, inventor or researcher and tell us why you like them?

Katharine McCormick, because she proved that you can make a change in the world no matter how old you are. The age is just a number. She fought for gender equality and used her inheritance to provide crucial funding for research on the hormonal birth control pill. She fought for women's role in science.

What do you think is the most interesting area of research for the future? (Yes, it’s broad).

Green technology: the changes that all types of technologies, industries and markets will have to have to make our planet greener and healthier, without losing their effectiveness and revenue.

What gadget or piece of technology are you most excited by?

Solar glass.

If you could put SSL’s filter in anything, where would you put it?

Water wells in remote and poorest villages in Africa for them to have access to clean water.

Which book have you given away the most. Why?

The order of time - Carlo Rovelli. Because it puts everything you know in perspective.
